  • 4Hirashimizu pond, an old name of Mitarashinoike pond

While Taicho Daishi (a great monk Taicho) prayed to this rock, a goddess appeared and told him, “Now I’m Gongen (incarnation of Buddhist deity).” This is the beginning of syncretism of Shinto and Buddhism. She also said, “My true figure lies on the top of Mt. Hakusan. Climb up quickly to where I am.” It is said that Taicho Daishi successfully climbed to the summit of Mt. Hakusan guided by the goddess. This pond was once called Hirashimizu pond and the name Heisenji derives from this pond.
