The Ichijodani Castle Town was built in a river valley of the same name, which stretches out for 3 kilometers north to south in the mountains east of Fukui City. Due to the river’s confluence with the Asuwagawa River, transportation by boat became an integral part of the town’s logistical network. Along the Ichijodani river, an archaeological excavation uncovered the remains of a stone revetment, or supporting wall, as well as an unloading point, or pier, once referred to as the “Ichijo Inlet.”
