In Medieval period, many residences for monks lined up in the area called “Minamitani
3, 600 residences for monks” located on the south of Hakusan shrine. Pictures that remain in Hakusan shrine depict many residences for monks with roads spread in all direction. Excavational investigation discovered the sites of stone paved paths and residences for monks in almost exactly the same location as depicted in the old pictures
