In 1997 (the 9th year of the Heisei era), an area in Heisenji temple covering two kilometers from east to west and one kilometer from north to south was additionally designated as national historic site. Many sites of residences for monks are preserved around this area that date back to the Warring States period when Heisenji temple boasted of prosperity. Stone paved path was discovered in the excavational investigation conducted in 1990 and 1991 (the 2nd and 3rd year of the Heisei era). It was a part of the roads that spread in all directions inside the precincts. The Stone paved path is made of riverbed stones carried from the Megami River located down the slope on the south side of this temple.
